Motherwort

Leonurus cardiaca

Medicinal herbsHarvest

A bitter mint for a racing heart and a spinning mind — not a culinary leaf.

Leonurus is a traditional European cardiac nervine and women’s herb. The name is the indication: palpitations of anxiety, restlessness after birth in old midwifery notes. It is intensely bitter. Pregnancy is a stop. This is not a salad mint.

Flavor

Harsh, bitter mint. A tincture or a short infusion, not a pleasant cup.
