Persea americana

Fruit & vegetableHarvest

A Mesoamerican berry with a giant seed — fat as food, not a toast personality, and not a pit tea.

Avocado is a laurel-family fruit of Mesoamerica. Traditional use is as a fatty flesh with salt, maize, and chile. Culinary ripe flesh is the path. The pit and leaves are not a tea. Hass is a California seedling that took over the grocery. They ripen off the tree; a hard fruit on the counter is a plan, not a defect.

Flavor

Butter, green nut, a little sweetness when really ripe. Underripe is water and regret.

Parts used

Cautions
