Andrographis paniculata

Medicinal herbsHarvest

King of bitters — a South Asian annual whose leaf is a short-course cold folklore, and one of the bitterest cups in the folio.

Andrographis is a tropical annual used in Ayurvedic and Chinese short courses for feverish colds. The leaf is punishingly bitter. This plate is a labeled extract or a brief, ugly infusion — not a pleasant evening cup. Evidence is mixed; the bitterness is not.

Flavor

Relentless bitter, green, a little smoke. Honey is a kindness and a confession.
