Jul

Last spring frost mid-April. First fall frost mid-October. A ridge runs colder than a hollow. Treat dates as a week either way, not a promise.

  1. Sow

Start fall cabbage, kale, broccoli indoors

July is too hot to sow them in the bed. A tray in light shade.

    Cabbage · Kale · Broccoli

  2. Harvest

    Potato, cucumber, tomato, daylily buds

Buds of Hemerocallis, never a true lily. Name it first.

Potato · Cucumber · Tomato · Orange daylily

  3. Protect

Mulch and water the soil, not the leaf

Blight weather is a wet night on a still tomato. Morning sun on wet leaves helps.

    Tomato · Potato · Zucchini

  4. Cut

Daily zinnia and sunflower for the house

The insectary still works if you leave some open singles.

Zinnia · Sunflower · French marigold
